10-DAY NATURE AND WILDLIFE TOUR IN SRI LANKA

Explore the wildlife of Sri Lanka with a tour that covers the most exiting nature and wildlife attractions in this paradise island. You will trek, hike and do nature trails and game drives in wildlife sanctuaries that are known for different wildlife attractions. This tour offers you an opportunity to discover leopards, Elephant, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Hanuman Langur, Toque Monkey, Stripe-necked and Ruddy Mongooses, Wild Boar, Golden Jackal, Land and Water Monitor and Marsh Crocodile and many more birds.

DAY 1: KATUNAYAKE / KITULGALA

Having arrived in Sri Lanka you will be greeted by your chauffeur guide at the airport itself. Take a leisurely drive to Kitulgala and check in to Borderlands Campsite (Approx. 3 hrs. 30 mins. Drive).

Recover any Jetlag, relax and spend your time at leisure.

 

Enjoy dinner and spend one of the River Edge Tents.

DAY 2: KITULGALA

After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, start Whitewater Rafting tour with our guide.

After a safety briefing and a few pointers on rafting technique, we’ll jump right into the action. The river hosts rapids between grades 2 and 3, with the rafting stretch approximately 6.5 kilometers in length, and taking between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to complete, depending on water levels.

 

Enjoy Lunch at Borderlands Campsite and spend couple of hours at leisure before starting your hiking experience.

 

Hike through the local forests surrounding Kitulgala, passing friendly, smiling villagers. Climb for stunning views of the Kelani River valley, the verdant jungle, and the rocky crag faces of the higher Hill Country.

Enjoy dinner and spend one of the River Edge Tents.

DAY 3: KITULGALA / KNUCKLES MOUNTAIN RANGE

Leave your campsite at 06:00 am and proceed to Hunnasgiriya where you will meet your nature guide and start a memorable ride to Meemure village (Approx. 3 hrs. drive).

 

Start your nature expedition to Meemure village with your guide. During this tour you will experience some water activities with fun and explore the authenticity of the Meemure Village and the traditions of the village people pied by the tea estate workers during the colonial era.

 

A cup of Pure Ceylon Tea and panoramic view of the mountain ranges and stunning landscape to add to your pleasure will create memories of a lifetime as you enjoy and experience the lifestyles of the locals.

 

Later, you will experience a traditional Sri Lankan lunch at a village house.

 

Arrive at the campsite for Evening tea. After tea you will relax and enjoy the pleasure of the surrounding environment.

 

Sit closer to the bon fire and enjoy the BBQ dinner.

After the dinner you will spend the night at a Standard tent in the mountain premises.

DAY 4: KNUCKLES MOUNTAIN RANGE / GAL OYA

Awake on you forth day andafter a delicious breakfast, you will be moved to your next destination, Gal Oya – which is the most untouched of all of Sri Lanka’s National Parks(Approx. ).

 

You will arrive at Gal Oya Lodge for lunch and check in to one of the wooden eco bungalows in the lodge.

 

After lunch, you will proceed with your first adventure Safari in the Gal Oya National Park by Jeep. The Park is rich in flora and fauna which is a sanctuary to 32 species of terrestrial mammals. Our more intrepid guests can couple the drive with a safari on foot. Hike through the park with our expert naturalists and see wildlife up close while exploring hidden corners of the par.

 

Have your dinner at the main restaurant of the lodge and spend the overnight.

DAY 5: GAL OYA / UDAWALAWE

Leave with your guide around 06:00 am to do an exciting safari in the National park by boat. Enjoy the only experience in Sri Lanka that allows you to spot wildlife from the water. It’s a unique way to immerse yourself in the animals’ habitats. With a little luck you could spot elephants swimming between islands or bathing at the lake’s edge.

 

Arrive back to your lodge and then you will be transferred to Udawalawe (Approx. ).

On arrival, you will enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant.

 

On arrival to Udawalawe, you will check in to Grand Udawalawe Safari Lodge& spend the day at leisure relaxing & enjoying hotel facilities.

 

Dinner and Overnight stay at Grand Udawalawe Safari Lodge.

DAY 6: UDAWALAWE

If you haven’t gotten your fill of wildlife, today you can go set out on an early morning safari – your best opportunity to see Sri Lankan Elephants, which are relatively hard to see in its open habitats.

 

Half Day Safari at Udawalawe National Park – Half Day Game drive to Udawalawe National Park is a 3 hours game viewing opportunity with Beyond Escapes Safari Team. This National Park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir. It lies on the boundary of Sri Lanka’s wet and dry zones. Udawalawe is famous for Sri Lankan Elephants, which are relatively hard to see in its open habitats. Many Elephants are attracted to the park because of the reservoir.  Other than the Elephants, the park is home to water Buffalo, water Monitor Lizards, Sambar Deer, Monkeys and the occasional Leopard, as well as it is an exciting location for Bird enthusiasts.

 

Spend rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 7: UDAWALAWE / YALA

After a restful sleep in the wild, you will be moved todry-zone and into Sri Lanka’s most gratifying wildlife reserve, Yala National Park (Approx. 2 hrs. drive).

Check in to Leopard Nest Campsite for Lunch.

 

In the afternoon, you will be taken to Bundala National Park which is an important wintering ground for migratory water birds.

 

Half Day Safari at Bundala National park – Half Day Game drive to Bundala National Park is a 3 hours game viewing opportunity with Beyond Escapes Safari Team. This is an important wintering ground for migratory water birds. Bundala harbors 197 species of birds, the highlight being the greater Flamingo, which migrate in Large Flocks. Every species of water bird found in the country can be sighted here. Occasional Elephant, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Hanuman Langur, Toque Monkey, Stripe-necked and Ruddy Mongooses, Wild Boar, Golden Jackal, Land and Water Monitor and Marsh Crocodile can be seeing during your Safari. We provide light refreshments and water bottles during the safari.

DAY 8: YALA

Sunrise is the best time to view Yala National Park’s wild residents, rise early and set out with a thrilling adventure of Wildlife with a full day safari tour in Yala National Park which has the highest density of Leopards in the world.

 

You will also enjoy picnic lunch by the beach and spend couple of hours on the beach at leisure before your evening tour for searching leopards.

 

Full Day Safari at Yala National Park with Picnic Lunch – Full Day Game drive to Yala National Park is a 7-8 hours game viewing opportunity with Beyond Escapes Safari Team. Yala is home to 44 varieties of mammal and 215 bird species. Among its more famous residents are the world’s biggest concentration of leopards. The leopards are more elusive and primarily nocturnal in other countries but are easier to spot in Sri Lanka than any other place in the world. Elephant, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Hanuman Langur, Toque Monkey, Stripe-necked and Ruddy Mongooses, Wild Boar, Golden Jackal, Land and Water Monitor and Marsh Crocodile can be seeing during your Safari. We provide light refreshments, water bottles and picnic lunch during the safari.

 

Late eveningenjoy a barbeque dinner around the campfire where you can listen to park stories told about the wildlife by our naturalists.

DAY 9: YALA / BENTOTA

Now, having experienced the best of Sri Lanka’s unforgettable wild and natural wonders, you will be ready for some relaxing time on our world class beaches.After a truly Sri Lankan yet personalized breakfast at the campsite, you will be head to Bentota (Approx. 5 hrs. drive).

 

En route, you will enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant.

 

Late afternoon, you will do a guided boat ride in primitive depths of the mangrove marshes in Madu River.

 

BALAPITIYA BOAT RIDE (MADU GANGA) – Balapitiya is famous for the unique beauty of Madu Ganga & the nature on a boat trip. It is in Mangrove vegetation lines the river beds and occasional islets emerge as the river flows into the sea. Further upstream, you can see kraal-fishing constructions and fishermen making their way in rowing boats to collect their day’s catch. The occasional blue kingfisher flies in the vicinity of the kraal, a pond heron stands tall in the water and other wetland birds have arisen from their slumber. This site is an ecological asset that harbors many wetland vegetation types as well as a variety of fauna, including several globally and nationally threatened or endangered species.This ride gives you several memorable experiences and the natural fish therapy from hundreds of fish, is one of them.

 

When finished the boat ride, continue your drive to hotel. Check-in and spend time at leisure.

Reflect on your last night in Ceylon, look through your incredible photos, and watch a final glorious sunset over the Indian Ocean.

DAY 10: BENTOTA / DEPARTURE

As all good things must come to an end, your chauffeur guide with comfortably take you to Colombo international airport in time for your return flight for the flight back home with memories of best adventurous experience of a lifetime!
